The DialogUE Project
Researchers from Masaryk University have been awarded a three-year grant project titled Judicial Dialogue in EU Matters in the Czech Republic and Slovakia (DialogUE). The project runs from January 2022 to December 2024 and it aims to analyse all cases submitted to the ECJ by Czech and Slovak courts in the first 20 years of these countries' membership in the EU, i.e. from 1 May 2004 to 30 April 2024. (In the first 19 years of membership, i.e. by the end of April 2023, there have been 107 references from Czech courts and 79 references from Slovak courts, i.e. 186 cases in total.)
The team will analyse the Czech & Slovak cases at three levels:
- at the stage of the references submitted by national courts,
- at the stage of the ECJ’s responses,
- at the stage of the follow-up decisions by the national courts.

Team
The team is currently composed of Zuzana Vikarská (principal investigator), Natálie Dřínovská, Marek Pivoda, Filip Vlček, Ladislav Kováč, and Jan Rohlena from Masaryk University, Barbora Budinská from Leiden University and Šimon Drugda from Copenhagen University as our international partners, and Michal Kovalčík, Terézia Lazarová, and Eliška Dvořáová as our student researchers. In addition to individual research work and ongoing communication among our team members, the team also meets regularly to discuss work in progress.
Other forms of cooperation
All vacancies in the team have now been filled. However, you can also cooperate with us as a non-remunerated team member or as our international partner, if you are already funded at a different institution. This could be interesting if you find the project worth exploring within your current affiliation - in that case, your publications will be attributed to your institution but you can benefit from the team's data and findings.
